Call for abstracts

The deadline for the submission of abstracts (for oral or poster presentations) is: Thursday, 10 January 2010.

Submission details:

Abstracts may be submitted via a system designed by Wageningen Academic Publishers. Please submit your abstract to: Wageningen Academic Publishers Abstract and Congress Management Application.

Format and submission process:

Abstract format:

• The word limit is 300 words (maximum number of characters is 2,500) and all abstracts must be written in English.
• Authors will be asked to indicate if they wish to be considered for an oral presentation and / or poster presentation.

After clicking on the abstract submission link, you will be redirected to the publishers’ website for submitting your abstract. If you have submitted an abstract before at Wageningen Academic Publishers’ website, you can start immediately. Otherwise, you will be asked to create a user name and sign in.

In five easy steps you will be guided through the submission process. We advise you to read the author instructions carefully, these can be downloaded from the publishers website menu on the left of the screen (guide for authors) after logging in.

Please note: Abstracts can be typed directly into the submission page or you can copy and paste a pre-prepared abstract. WAP advise that it “can be helpful to have your abstract ready when starting the submission process”. Please note the maximum number of characters, including title and authors, is 2,500.

Conference Themes

2010 provides us with a privileged observatory for the 3rd Millenium challenges to agricultural sciences and biosciences. Ethical and legal issues related to the food security, animal welfare as well as the prevention of food born diseases are going to be, among others, the object of cross-disciplinary reflection and debate in the 9th EurSafe Congress.

These questions and many more will be examined under the Congress sub-themes:

1. Climate change policies and food security
2. Sustainable agriculture and aquaculture for global food security
3. The role of local breeds and traditions in sustainable agriculture and aquaculture
4. Alleviating hunger and poverty: Role of agri-food research
5. The role of biotechnology in food security
6. Ethical and legal aspects of bioscience patenting
7. Eating, nutrition and health: Ethical and legal considerations
8. Food labelling and consumer protection
9. The role of ethical engagement and public participation in EU food governance
10. Ethics of bioenergy production
11. Ethical, welfare and legal status of farm and laboratory animals in the EU
12. Teaching ethics, animal welfare and law for the biosciences and agri-food sector

Abstracts should address one of the defined conference themes or a specific aspect of the ethical dimensions of food and agriculture.


Notification of acceptance will be before: 5 February 2010

The deadline for full papers submission is: 20 March 2010

Further details on the review process and the format for the full paper with be available shortly.

Publication of Congress Papers:

All full papers will be included in the Congress book which is published by Wageningen Academic Publishers (unless otherwise requested). The Congress book will be distributed to all delegates at the start of the conference.
